Fundación Anna Gabriela Ross – San José
Fundación Dra. Anna Gabriela Ross was established in 2003 in the name of the noted Costa Rican doctor Anna Gabriela Ross, who succumbed to cancer in that same year. During her treatment she had imagined an organization that could offer its support and assistance to improve the quality of life for people with cancer and their family members. Her sister Victoria Ross established this volunteer-run organization. Its mission is to research cancer and its related topics, as well as to educate the public on cancer, raise awareness about cancer and its prevention, and offer assistance to the general population. It works to achieve this mission through research, trainings, workshops, partnerships and a strong group of volunteers from around the country working in distinct areas.
EGYPT
Alexandria Regional Centre for Women’s Health and Development – Alexandria
The Alexandria Regional Centre for Women’s Health and Development is a training and research institution dedicated to women’s health and development in Egypt and neighboring countries. The Centre views health as being strongly linked to women’s development. Its activities include training physicians and health personnel, conducting basic and clinical research and maintaining an information centre in all aspects of women’s health.
Breast Cancer Foundation of Egypt (BCFE) – Cairo
Breast Cancer Foundation of Egypt (BCFE) promotes breast health through breast cancer awareness, education, and research and facilitates services and support to women in all social and economic strata. It was founded by a small group of Egyptians and expatriates concerned with the high incidence of breast cancer and the lack of related support services in Egypt. BCFE is an NGO registered with the Ministry of Social Solidarity.
Luxor Urban Center – Luxor
Luxor Urban Center – one of the development projects of Luxor Governorate – aims to achieve economic and social development of women by spreading a culture of self- employment through training on handcraft projects. This in turn leads to a higher standard of living for families, reduction of unemployment, and the preservation of handcrafts, The Center engages the concept of participatory development to achieve its objectives by partnering with government bodies, the province of Luxor and the Ministry of Social Solidarity, as well as civil society organizations for women to implement comprehensive development programs. The Center is part of an initiative to preserve the national heritage while promoting the principle of fair trade and environmentally-friendly production through creating Egyptian products hand crafted based on natural raw materials.
JORDAN
King Hussein Cancer Foundation – Jordan Breast Cancer Program – Amman
Jordan Breast Cancer Program (JBCP) is a nation-wide initiative for the development and provision of comprehensive services for the early detection and screening of breast cancer for all women in Jordan. JBCP was established by the Minister of Health and is governed by many key stakeholders within the health community in Jordan. This program is specifically under the leadership of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation which is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization, run by a board of trustees comprised of a dedicated group of prominent volunteers whose mission is focused on cancer care. The King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) is the only specialized cancer center in the Middle East treating both adult and pediatric patients.
An executive board led by the King Hussein Cancer Center oversees the operations of JBCP, provides direction and ensures the implementation of its action plans. HRH Princess Dina Mired, Director General of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation is the Honorary Chairperson of the National Breast Cancer Committee and the Executive Board. JBCP is governed by a National Steering Committee comprising major health stakeholders including the Ministry of Health, King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Center, World Health Organization, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, Royal Medical Services, King Abdullah Hospital, USAID’s Private Sector Project for Women’s Health, Jordan University, Hashemite University and the Syndicate of Private Hospitals.
MEXICO
Asociación Mexicana contra el Cáncer de Mama, A.C., Fundación Cim*ab – México D.F
The Asociación Mexicana contra el Cáncer de Mama, A.C., Fundación Cim*ab, is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established in 2002 to disseminate up-to-date information and give hope to Mexican women suffering from breast cancer. Its principal mission is to prompt a change in the way breast cancer is regarded in Mexico, to increase the number of early detections and in so doing reduce the mortality rate. Cim*ab is also a meeting point for breast cancer survivors and offers alternatives for a better life. Over the past five years, Cim*ab has launched important breast health education and mass media campaigns. Given that more than 60 percent of breast cancer cases in Mexico are diagnosed at a late stage, gravely reducing chances for survival, Cim*ab’s goal is to overturn this statistic through these campaigns, as well as encourage women to have annual mammograms and conduct monthly self-examinations. Providing emotional support to breast cancer survivors is also an important part of Cim*ab’s mission.
PANAMA

ANCEC is a non-profit organization made up of volunteers committed to public education campaigns and the early detection of cancer. It was founded in 1970 when the National Cancer League (1960) joined with the National Association for the Prevention of Women’s Cancers (1965). Its objective is to educate the public on cancer prevention and increase early detection. It administers cancer clinics throughout the country, promotes research and cancer education amongst health professionals, seeks public-private collaborations for fundraising purposes, and is a member of the International Union Against Cancer (IUCC). It is a well-respected institution that is on the board of the National Oncology Institute.

Established seven years ago, FundAyuda is recognized for its high quality leadership and its efforts to provide assistance to the most needed sectors of the community. The organization has worked intensively with the Office of the First Lady to increase breast cancer awareness, develop cause-related marketing efforts, coordinate special pricing for breast cancer screenings with private clinics and make breast reconstruction surgery accessible to women at the National Oncology Institute. In collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Panama, FundAyuda has coordinated the Operation Walk Denver program to offer knee and hip arthritis surgery to Panamanians free-of-charge or at a discounted rate.
ROMANIA
Societatea de Educatie Contraceptiva si Sexuala – Bucharest
SECS is a Romanian NGO which proactively engages stakeholders to address identified needs and ensure optimum use of resources in order to guarantee universal access for the Romanian population to reproductive health information and quality reproductive health services. SECS was funded with support from the International Planned Parenthood Federation in 1990 as one of the first institutions aimed at meeting the needs in the field of reproductive health/family planning of the Romanian population after long years of repressive pro-natalist policy. SECS’ goals are to improve the capacity of institutions, communities, and individuals to identify and respond to evolving reproductive health needs in Romania; and to increase SECS’ capacity to address its strategic objectives on a continual basis.
SAUDI ARABIA
The Saudi Cancer Society (SCS) – Riyadh
The Saudi Cancer Society (SCS) is devoted to providing support services and fighting all forms of cancer. The SCS is a non-profit, charitable organization supervised by the Ministry of Social Affairs. Its mission is to minimize the effects of cancer within Saudi Arabia. On October 23, 2007, the SCS joined the U.S.-Middle East Partnership for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research to build competency in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia working in the areas of breast cancer awareness, research, training, community outreach, and women’s empowerment. Under SCS, there will be a National Cancer Prevention Committee with an executive committee focused on breast cancer. SCS also plays a primary role in helping administer and fund the Abdullatif Charitable Screening Center, the first center in the Kingdom to conduct early diagnosis of cancer containing specialized clinics to diagnose various forms of cancer in both men and women.

The Ukrainian Women’s Fund (UWF) is an international charitable organization founded in 2000 to provide public organizations, and particularly women’s organizations from Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus, with financial, informational and consultation support. UWF’s aim is to help women and women’s organizations play an active role in the process of building gender democracy. UWF supports the active participation of women and women’s organizations in the development of a just society that guarantees women’s rights, strengthens their role in the community, and promotes women at all levels and in all fields. UWF works to facilitate women in this path in every way possible.
UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
The Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD) – Abu Dhabi
The mission of the Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD) is to ensure reliable high quality healthcare for the people of the Emirate. As the regulator of the health system, it sets clear standards for clinicians and clinical facilities in the both public and private sectors, issuing licenses and inspecting against these standards. In 2008, the HAAD transferred all public hospitals and primary care clinics to a publicly-owned holding company called SEHA (meaning “health” in Arabic), which now operates the facilities in partnership with world-class institutions such as Johns Hopkins University, the Cleveland Clinic, and the University of Vienna/Vamed. HAAD, SEHA and private sector providers work together to ensure healthcare in Abu Dhabi meets the highest international standards and is available to all residents of the Emirate. In addition, the Abu Dhabi Government invests strongly in Public Health to address its core priorities, particularly cardiovascular disease, road death, and cancer.
