Panama Decima – Komen Global Initiative Community Grant
The community project “Little Rays of Hope” (Rayitos de Esperanza) aims to increase early detection of breast cancer among women in this underserved district of Ola, in the province of Cocle, Panama by creating a network of health promoters, training health professionals on breast health, and educating women on BSA.
The project was launched on July 15, 2010 and included a special dedication to Nancy Brinker and Komen. The group composed a “décima,” a Panamanian folkloric song made up of stanzas of ten verses each. To the strumming of a guitar, a twelve year old boy sang the verses with great charisma and extraordinary passion.
