Since the inception of the program in 2007, the Global Initiative has made significant progress toward creating a diverse network of individuals and organizations with the skills and passion to improve breast health in their communities.
- The Global Initiative network has expanded to 10 countries in Latin America, the Middle East and Eastern Europe
- More than 1,000 men and women have graduated from the Course for the Cure™ to become advocates for breast cancer
- Funding from 59 Community Grants is supporting the network as they transform research and lessons learned into action at the grass roots level
- Stronger connections between activists have been formed across more than 480 organizations from various sectors
- Approximately 25,000 people reached through breast cancer awareness raising activities and 22,000 women screened for breast cancer funded through partnerships with the MOH, NGOs and local medical facilities
- More than 1,800 health professionals trained in CBE, mammography, and BSA through community grants activities.
- One documentary, “Healing and Hope” filmed in 2009, shares stories of breast cancer survivors in Abu Dhabi, UAE. This film is an intimate yet educational portrait that includes interviews with survivors, their families, and their doctors about the experience of fighting breast cancer.
