A key component of the Global Initiative is providing participants with the tools to identify, understand, and address breast cancer needs in their communities.
Participants in Course for the Cure™ are trained in best practices for how to create an assessment of breast health in their community. The assessment findings are compiled into a “Community Profile” report that is shared widely in the community. Community Profiles include:
- Country context and overview
- Demographic and breast cancer statistics
- Qualitative data that examines women’s barriers to the awareness, detection, and treatment of breast cancer
- Identified and prioritized unmet needs or “gaps”
- Strategic goals and objectives to address unmet needs in target communities
- Directories of local breast health programs and services that inform communities about key resources and services available in breast cancer or women’s health
USING THE COMMUNITY PROFILE
The Community Profile is a living document. It should be used on an on-going basis to inform strategic planning in the community around breast health and to strengthen existing programs and services. As a living document, it also needs to be updated on a regular basis as circumstances change and new information becomes available.
The information contained in these Community Profiles has been compiled by Course for the Cure™ participants and comes from a variety of sources. Participants have attempted to obtain the latest and most reliable data available and to accurately reflect breast cancer challenges and resources in their city at the time of the profile. Susan G. Komen for the Cure does not recommend, endorse or make any representations or warranties of any kind with respect to the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, quality, efficacy or non-infringement of the information contained in this summary.
