Community Grant Program
The Community Grant Program supports Course for the Cure™ graduates to transform the lessons learned from training workshops and Community Profile research into action. Global Initiative participants collaborate to design innovative, short-term community projects that address the breast cancer-related gaps they identified in their communities throughout their Community Profile research. Each project is designed to tackle some of the most pressing issues faced in the fight against breast cancer in its respective community.
To date, Komen has awarded a total of 59 grants for community projects in the Global Initiative countries of Brazil, Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama, Romania and Ukraine. For each grant the following selection criteria is emphasized: collaboration, sustainability, focus on gaps found in Community Profile research, measurable impact on breast cancer outcomes, and innovative approach. To date, grantees have worked with a broad range of communities including medical professionals, indigenous communities, mastectomy patients, breast cancer survivors, rural populations, incarcerated women, and youth to build breast cancer awareness, support, and advocate to change breast cancer outcomes for each grant community.
