Breast Cancer in Brazil

  • Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death among women in Brazil.
  • According to an INCA 2009 report, the estimated breast cancer incidence rate in Brazil is 49 cases per 100,000 women. However, in Southern Brazil it increases to 114 per 100,000 women in some areas.
  • Late diagnosis is considered a major factor affecting mortality rates, as a significant portion of breast cancer patients in Brazil are diagnosed at advanced stages of the disease.
