With Rio de Janeiro having one of the highest breast cancer incidence rates in Brazil, the community grant project Multiplying Breast Health Initiatives, raises awareness about the disease and its diagnosis and treatment among high school students, parents and teachers in the city of Corrêas with an attractive, illustrated guide. - The project, which has as its protagonist Duda, a female high school student whose mother has breast cancer, utilizes the language and experience of teenagers to highlight the importance of breast self-awareness and early detection.
- The guide will be distributed among all the public high schools in the city of Corrêas, state of Rio de Janeiro and the author will make presentations to the students, teachers and parents at each school.
- The guide aims to have students become multipliers of the information for their friends, sisters, mothers, aunts and grandmothers.
- Focus groups were used to test the appropriateness and effectiveness of the guide.
