Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues Melanne Verveer met with participants and representatives of the Global Initiative for Breast Cancer Awareness in Egypt. The Global Initiative Egypt is implemented by IIE, with generous funding by USAID and the American people. Program Manager Heba Sweed showcased the program’s accomplishments and upcoming plans in meetings with Course for the Cure™ participants and steering committee members. These meetings were part of a tour by Ambassador Verveer through Lithuania, Russia, and Egypt to discuss women’s empowerment in the political, social, and economic arenas with government and NGO leaders.
- Ambassador Verveer, accompanied by US Ambassador to Egypt Margaret Scobey, visited the Alexandria Lead Partner, Alexandria Regional Centre for Women’s Health and Development on April 20, 2010.
- Program Manager Dr. Heba Sweed presents on the Global Initiative Egypt, and Global Initiative Steering Committee members Ms. Nabila Allam (also a CFTC participant and survivor) and Ms. Maha Mongued give presentations about their experience.
- The Ambassador participated briefly in the CFTC training being held that day, and shared their experiences with the group.
