The project “Training Doctors and Other Health Providers,” which took place in Cuquio, Jalisco, directly addressed the need to train primary care doctors, nurses and social workers who attend to rural populations on breast cancer early detection, clinical breast exams and raising awareness.

  • This highly-collaborative project included partnerships with the Hospital Civil Fray Antonio Alcalde, the Ministry of Health, the University of Guadalajara, the Cuquio Municipality Town Hall and the breast cancer organization Grupo Reto.
  • As a result of this training, 30 health care providers in the public healthcare system have the ability to impact over 6,000 women in the cities of Cuquio and Hixtlahuacan.
  • Through the project, 75 women received free mammography screenings and 60 were administered Clinical Breast Exams.
