Building a Network

Building a NetworkIn 2010 Global Initiative countries convened the most active members of their respective Global Initiative networks to plan for their future. These meetings allowed participants to share their challenges and successes of advocacy efforts and community grant projects. Throughout these three days bonds grew much stronger, systems were put in place, and strategic plans were set.

National Network Meeting, Ukraine

  • On the first full conference day, participants focused on the theme, “My contribution to the fight against breast cancer as an activist of an effective network.”  Objectives of this discussion included: empowering Global Initiative participants to be leaders and self-organizers in the fight against breast cancer, discussing contributions participants can make as individuals and a network in the fight against breast cancer, and generating ideas and commitments for next steps.
  • Open Space Technology guided the day, offering a degree of freedom, flexibility, and ownership to participants that was particularly ground-breaking in the often-hierarchical and traditional Ukrainian culture
  • The last two days of the conference featured advocacy training for a select subset of participants, facilitated by Master Trainer Galina Maistruk.
  • Participants left the conference with concrete projects and plans for changing the face of breast cancer in Ukraine – together.
